Brief History

The Department of Botany at Parimal Mitra Smriti Mahavidyalaya was established in 2016, expanding the college’s academic offerings beyond Arts and Commerce, which had been introduced since the college’s inception in 1985. The department began its academic journey on the first floor of the Science building, known as the Einstein Building where it continues to develop and expand. It offers Program courses under the CBCS curriculum and Major and MDC courses under the FYUGP curriculum. Initially staffed by guest faculty, the department welcomed its first substantive teachers, Dr. Ritu Rai and Dr. Shuvadeep Majumdar, in 2019. Presently, the department is led by Dr. Ritu Rai (Head of the Department), supported by guest teacher Ms. Maitri Saha and non-teaching staff member Nilashish Saha.
