NSS
Message from Program Officer of NSS UNIT – 1
Dr. Sulochana Kumari Das
The aim of human life is to rise above personal interest irrespective of caste, creed, religion, and linguistic jingoism. Philanthropy and the holistic development of society, nay the nation, have always been the topmost priority of the National Service Scheme (NSS). The welfare of the world and its people is the foremost objective of humanity, and the National Service Scheme (NSS) moves us towards the attainment of this goal.
The Union Education Minister, Dr. V.K.R.V. Rao, launched the NSS programme on 24 September 1969. This proclamation included thirty-seven (37) universities covering all States and Union Territories. He simultaneously requested the Chief Ministers of States for their cooperation and help. It was appropriate that the programme started during the Gandhi Centenary Year, as it was Mahatma Gandhi who inspired Indian youth to participate in the movement for India’s independence and the social uplift of the downtrodden.
The main objective of NSS is to orient students towards community service. The motto of the National Service Scheme is “NOT ME BUT YOU”. This reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service, respecting the individual’s point of view and promoting the well-being of the masses.
It is a matter of great joy and pride that after a long gap, the National Service Scheme (NSS) has had a brilliant beginning this year under the right leadership of the Head of the Institution. I, Dr. Sulochana Kumari Das, Assistant Professor, Department of Hindi, feel extremely proud to have been selected as the NSS Programme Officer.
We pledge to bring to fruition the basic ideas and ideals of the NSS with full dedication and devotion.
