Brief History of the department

The Department of Political Science of Parimal Mitra Smriti Mahavidyalaya started its journey in the year of 1985(academic session 1985-86) from the inception of this college. Initially the Department was started with General Course and after that in the year of 2004(academic session 2004-05) the Honours Course has been introduced. The Department initially started under the supervision of Dr. Partha Sarathi Das. In 1996 Dr. Partha Sarathi Das resigned from the post and Prof Kanak Ranjan Deb took over the charge of the department. From 2000 to 2008 Prof Bikash Ranjan Deb served as the Head of the Department and on 31.08.2008 he resigned from the post. In 2010 Dr. Dibyendu Dasgupta joined the Department and till date he is serving as Head of the Department. To cater to the needs of the growing population of students, contractual and part time teachers have been appointed. In 2008 Bhupen Ghimirey (Contractual Teacher) and Tirthankar Chakraborty (Govt approved Part time teacher) joined the Department and contributed signally to the department until their resignation in 2014 and 2019 respectively. Now Prof. Nitay Mahanto (Substantive) is serving the department on and from 2016 and Prof. Anindita Das is serving the Department as State Aided College Teacher (SACT) on and from 2007.

Our vision is to develop brilliant graduates, be academically ambitious, and maintain a high standard in our educational pursuits. We aspire not just to learn and teach about civic life, but also to promote engagement in various activities of civic life.

Mission

The mission of the Department of Political Science of Parimal Mitra Smriti Mahavidyalaya is to produce graduates with well-rounded knowledge of Political Science and a sense of responsibility to society. We are committed to prepare students for active citizenship, careers, and advanced training in political science, and other fields. Through effective dissemination of our curriculum, we seek to provide our students with a broad understanding of politics and how it affects their lives.
